In the past, there were similar failures reported by CI from other IGT tests, observed on other platforms. Before commit 63baf4f3d587 ("drm/i915/gt: Only wait for GPU activity before unbinding a GGTT fence"), i915_vma_revoke_fence() was waiting for idleness of vma->active via fence_update(). That commit introduced vma->fence->active in order for the fence_update() to be able to wait selectively on that one instead of vma->active since only idleness of fence registers was needed. But then, another commit 0d86ee35097a ("drm/i915/gt: Make fence revocation unequivocal") replaced the call to fence_update() in i915_vma_revoke_fence() with only fence_write(), and also added that GEM_BUG_ON(!i915_active_is_idle(&fence->active)) in front. No justification was provided on why we might then expect idleness of vma->fence->active without first waiting on it. The issue can be potentially caused by a race among revocation of fence registers on one side and sequential execution of signal callbacks invoked on completion of a request that was using them on the other, still processed in parallel to revocation of those fence registers.Fix it by waiting for idleness of vma->fence->active in i915_vma_revoke_fence(). 2. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-41015: ELSA-2024-12782: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel-container security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/29/2024 Created 10/24/2024 Added 10/16/2024 Modified 01/23/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: add bounds checking to ocfs2_check_dir_entry() This adds sanity checks for ocfs2_dir_entry to make sure all members of ocfs2_dir_entry don't stray beyond valid memory region. A vulnerability was found in the OCFS2 filesystem in the Linux Kernel. This issue has been addressed by adding bounds checking to the ocfs2_check_dir_entry() function. This update introduces sanity checks to ensure that all members of the ocfs2_dir_entry structure remain within valid memory regions, preventing out-of-bounds memory access. A flaw was found in the ocfs2_xattr_find_entry() function in the Linux kernel's Oracle Cluster File System version 2 (OCFS2). This issue arose due to inadequate bounds checking before a memcmp operation, particularly when handling "non-indexed" extended attributes (xattrs) that might request additional space. 4. Debian: CVE-2024-41038: linux, linux-6.1 -- security update Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/29/2024 Created 09/03/2024 Added 09/02/2024 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: cs_dsp: Prevent buffer overrun when processing V2 alg headers Check that all fields of a V2 algorithm header fit into the available firmware data buffer. The wmfw V2 format introduced variable-length strings in the algorithm block header. This means the overall header length is variable, and the position of most fields varies depending on the length of the string fields. Each field must be checked to ensure that it does not overflow the firmware data buffer. As this ia bugfix patch, the fixes avoid making any significant change to the existing code. This makes it easier to review and less likely to introduce new bugs. 13. Rocky Linux: CVE-2024-41039: kernel-rt (RLSA-2024-7001) Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 07/29/2024 Created 10/03/2024 Added 10/02/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: cs_dsp: Fix overflow checking of wmfw header Fix the checking that firmware file buffer is large enough for the wmfw header, to prevent overrunning the buffer. The original code tested that the firmware data buffer contained enough bytes for the sums of the size of the structs wmfw_header + wmfw_adsp1_sizes + wmfw_footer But wmfw_adsp1_sizes is only used on ADSP1 firmware. For ADSP2 and Halo Core the equivalent struct is wmfw_adsp2_sizes, which is 4 bytes longer. So the length check didn't guarantee that there are enough bytes in the firmware buffer for a header with wmfw_adsp2_sizes. This patch splits the length check into three separate parts. Each of the wmfw_header, wmfw_adsp?_sizes and wmfw_footer are checked separately before they are used. 23. Debian: CVE-2024-41090: linux, linux-6.1 -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 07/29/2024 Created 08/14/2024 Added 08/14/2024 Modified 01/03/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tap: add missing verification for short frame The cited commit missed to check against the validity of the frame length in the tap_get_user_xdp() path, which could cause a corrupted skb to be sent downstack. Even before the skb is transmitted, the tap_get_user_xdp()-->skb_set_network_header() may assume the size is more than ETH_HLEN. Once transmitted, this could either cause out-of-bound access beyond the actual length, or confuse the underlayer with incorrect or inconsistent header length in the skb metadata. In the alternative path, tap_get_user() already prohibits short frame which has the length less than Ethernet header size from being transmitted. This is to drop any frame shorter than the Ethernet header size just like how tap_get_user() does. 24. Debian: CVE-2024-42096: linux, linux-6.1 -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 07/29/2024 Created 08/08/2024 Added 08/07/2024 Modified 01/03/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86: stop playing stack games in profile_pc() The 'profile_pc()' function is used for timer-based profiling, which isn't really all that relevant any more to begin with, but it also ends up making assumptions based on the stack layout that aren't necessarily valid. Basically, the code tries to account the time spent in spinlocks to the caller rather than the spinlock, and while I support that as a concept, it's not worth the code complexity or the KASAN warnings when no serious profiling is done using timers anyway these days. And the code really does depend on stack layout that is only true in the simplest of cases. We've lost the comment at some point (I think when the 32-bit and 64-bit code was unified), but it used to say: Assume the lock function has either no stack frame or a copy of eflags from PUSHF. which explains why it just blindly loads a word or two straight off the stack pointer and then takes a minimal look at the values to just check if they might be eflags or the return pc: Eflags always has bits 22 and up cleared unlike kernel addresses but that basic stack layout assumption assumes that there isn't any lock debugging etc going on that would complicate the code and cause a stack frame. It causes KASAN unhappiness reported for years by syzkaller [1] and others [2]. With no real practical reason for this any more, just remove the code. Just for historical interest, here's some background commits relating to this code from 2006: 0cb91a229364 ("i386: Account spinlocks to the caller during profiling for !FP kernels") 31679f38d886 ("Simplify profile_pc on x86-64") and a code unification from 2009: ef4512882dbe ("x86: time_32/64.c unify profile_pc") but the basics of this thing actually goes back to before the git tree.
