Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-41044: kernel security update
Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-41044: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 07/29/2024 Created 10/10/2024 Added 10/09/2024 Modified 10/09/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ppp: reject claimed-as-LCP but actually malformed packets Since 'ppp_async_encode()' assumes valid LCP packets (with code from 1 to 7 inclusive), add 'ppp_check_packet()' to ensure that LCP packet has an actual body beyond PPP_LCP header bytes, and reject claimed-as-LCP but actually malformed data otherwise. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-41035: ELSA-2024-12610: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories)
Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-41035: ELSA-2024-12610: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/29/2024 Created 10/18/2024 Added 10/16/2024 Modified 01/23/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: core: Fix duplicate endpoint bug by clearing reserved bits in the descriptor Syzbot has identified a bug in usbcore (see the Closes: tag below) caused by our assumption that the reserved bits in an endpoint descriptor's bEndpointAddress field will always be 0.As a result of the bug, the endpoint_is_duplicate() routine in config.c (and possibly other routines as well) may believe that two descriptors are for distinct endpoints, even though they have the same direction and endpoint number. This can lead to confusion, including the bug identified by syzbot (two descriptors with matching endpoint numbers and directions, where one was interrupt and the other was bulk). To fix the bug, we will clear the reserved bits in bEndpointAddress when we parse the descriptor.(Note that both the USB-2.0 and USB-3.1 specs say these bits are "Reserved, reset to zero".)This requires us to make a copy of the descriptor earlier in usb_parse_endpoint() and use the copy instead of the original when checking for duplicates. A vulnerability was found in the usb_parse_endpoint() function in the Linux kernel's usb drivers, where improper handling of the reserved bits in an endpoint descriptor's bEndpointAddress field can lead to confusion in the endpoint_is_duplicate() routine in config.c. This will erroneously treat the same endpoint descriptors as distinct, given that the reserved bits are not properly cleared. This can potentially lead to unexpected behavior from connected USB devices. SUSE: CVE-2024-41013: SUSE Linux Security Advisory
SUSE: CVE-2024-41013: SUSE Linux Security Advisory Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 07/29/2024 Created 08/08/2024 Added 08/08/2024 Modified 08/28/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfs: don't walk off the end of a directory data block This adds sanity checks for xfs_dir2_data_unused and xfs_dir2_data_entry to make sure don't stray beyond valid memory region. Before patching, the loop simply checks that the start offset of the dup and dep is within the range. So in a crafted image, if last entry is xfs_dir2_data_unused, we can change dup->length to dup->length-1 and leave 1 byte of space. In the next traversal, this space will be considered as dup or dep. We may encounter an out of bound read when accessing the fixed members. In the patch, we make sure that the remaining bytes large enough to hold an unused entry before accessing xfs_dir2_data_unused and xfs_dir2_data_unused is XFS_DIR2_DATA_ALIGN byte aligned. We also make sure that the remaining bytes large enough to hold a dirent with a single-byte name before accessing xfs_dir2_data_entry.
