1. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-41110: docker-engine security update Severity 9 CVSS (AV:N/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 07/24/2024 Created 11/06/2024 Added 11/05/2024 Modified 12/06/2024 Description Moby is an open-source project created by Docker for software containerization. A security vulnerability has been detected in certain versions of Docker Engine, which could allow an attacker to bypass authorization plugins (AuthZ) under specific circumstances. The base likelihood of this being exploited is low. Using a specially-crafted API request, an Engine API client could make the daemon forward the request or response to an authorization plugin without the body. In certain circumstances, the authorization plugin may allow a request which it would have otherwise denied if the body had been forwarded to it. A security issue was discovered In 2018, where an attacker could bypass AuthZ plugins using a specially crafted API request. This could lead to unauthorized actions, including privilege escalation. Although this issue was fixed in Docker Engine v18.09.1 in January 2019, the fix was not carried forward to later major versions, resulting in a regression. Anyone who depends on authorization plugins that introspect the request and/or response body to make access control decisions is potentially impacted. Docker EE v19.03.x and all versions of Mirantis Container Runtime are not vulnerable. docker-ce v27.1.1 containes patches to fix the vulnerability. Patches have also been merged into the master, 19.03, 20.0, 23.0, 24.0, 25.0, 26.0, and 26.1 release branches. If one is unable to upgrade immediately, avoid using AuthZ plugins and/or restrict access to the Docker API to trusted parties, following the principle of least privilege. 6. Acronis Cyber Infrastructure default password remote code execution Disclosed 07/24/2024 Created 10/03/2024 Description Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) is an IT infrastructure solution that provides storage, compute, and network resources. Businesses and Service Providers are using it for data storage, backup storage, creating and managing virtual machines and software-defined networks, running cloud-native applications in production environments. This module exploits a default password vulnerability in ACI which allow an attacker to access the ACI PostgreSQL database and gain administrative access to the ACI Web Portal. This opens the door for the attacker to upload SSH keys that enables root access to the appliance/server. This attack can be remotely executed over the WAN as long as the PostgreSQL and SSH services are exposed to the outside world. ACI versions 5.0 before build 5.0.1-61, 5.1 before build 5.1.1-71, 5.2 before build 5.2.1-69, 5.3 before build 5.3.1-53, and 5.4 before build 5.4.4-132 are vulnerable. 7. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-41090: ELSA-2024-12581: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/24/2024 Created 08/20/2024 Added 08/16/2024 Modified 01/23/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tap: add missing verification for short frame The cited commit missed to check against the validity of the frame length in the tap_get_user_xdp() path, which could cause a corrupted skb to be sent downstack. Even before the skb is transmitted, the tap_get_user_xdp()-->skb_set_network_header() may assume the size is more than ETH_HLEN. Once transmitted, this could either cause out-of-bound access beyond the actual length, or confuse the underlayer with incorrect or inconsistent header length in the skb metadata. In the alternative path, tap_get_user() already prohibits short frame which has the length less than Ethernet header size from being transmitted. This is to drop any frame shorter than the Ethernet header size just like how tap_get_user() does. CVE: CVE-2024-41090 A denial of service (DoS) attack was found in the mlx5 driver in the Linux kernel. A KVM guest VM using virtio-net can crash the host by sending a short packet, for example, size < ETH_HLEN. The packet may traverse through vhost-net, macvtap, and vlan without any validation or drop. When this packet is presented to the mlx5 driver on the host side, the kernel panic happens since mlx5_core assumes the frame size is always >= ETH_HLEN. 11. Ubuntu: (CVE-2024-6197): curl vulnerability Severity 8 CVSS (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/24/2024 Created 11/21/2024 Added 11/19/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description libcurl's ASN1 parser has this utf8asn1str() function used for parsing an ASN.1 UTF-8 string. Itcan detect an invalid field and return error. Unfortunately, when doing so it also invokes `free()` on a 4 byte localstack buffer. Most modern malloc implementations detect this error and immediately abort. Some however accept the input pointer and add that memory to its list of available chunks. This leads to the overwriting of nearby stack memory. The content of the overwrite is decided by the `free()` implementation; likely to be memory pointers and a set of flags. The most likely outcome of exploting this flaw is a crash, although it cannot be ruled out that more serious results can be had in special circumstances. 14. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-41012: kernel security update Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:S/C:C/I:N/A:C) Published 07/23/2024 Created 10/10/2024 Added 10/09/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: filelock: Remove locks reliably when fcntl/close race is detected When fcntl_setlk() races with close(), it removes the created lock with do_lock_file_wait(). However, LSMs can allow the first do_lock_file_wait() that created the lock while denying the second do_lock_file_wait() that tries to remove the lock. Separately, posix_lock_file() could also fail to remove a lock due to GFP_KERNEL allocation failure (when splitting a range in the middle). After the bug has been triggered, use-after-free reads will occur in lock_get_status() when userspace reads /proc/locks. This can likely be used to read arbitrary kernel memory, but can't corrupt kernel memory. Fix it by calling locks_remove_posix() instead, which is designed to reliably get rid of POSIX locks associated with the given file and files_struct and is also used by filp_flush(). 19. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-41012): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:S/C:C/I:N/A:C) Published 07/23/2024 Created 11/05/2024 Added 11/04/2024 Modified 02/12/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: filelock: Remove locks reliably when fcntl/close race is detected When fcntl_setlk() races with close(), it removes the created lock with do_lock_file_wait().
