Red Hat: CVE-2024-40931: kernel: mptcp: ensure snd_una is properly initialized on connect (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/12/2024 Created 09/26/2024 Added 09/25/2024 Modified 12/12/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: ensure snd_una is properly initialized on connect This is strictly related to commit fb7a0d334894 ("mptcp: ensure snd_nxt is properly initialized on connect"). It turns out that syzkaller can trigger the retransmit after fallback and before processing any other incoming packet - so that snd_una is still left uninitialized. Address the issue explicitly initializing snd_una together with snd_nxt and write_seq. 2. Red Hat: CVE-2024-39499: kernel: vmci: prevent speculation leaks by sanitizing event in event_deliver() (Multiple Advisories) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:H/Au:M/C:C/I:N/A:N) Published 07/12/2024 Created 09/26/2024 Added 09/25/2024 Modified 02/10/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vmci: prevent speculation leaks by sanitizing event in event_deliver() Coverity spotted that event_msg is controlled by user-space, event_msg->event_data.event is passed to event_deliver() and used as an index without sanitization. This change ensures that the event index is sanitized to mitigate any possibility of speculative information leaks. This bug was discovered and resolved using Coverity Static Analysis Security Testing (SAST) by Synopsys, Inc. Only compile tested, no access to HW. Red Hat: CVE-2024-40901: kernel: scsi: mpt3sas: Avoid test/set_bit() operating in non-allocated memory (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/12/2024 Created 09/26/2024 Added 09/25/2024 Modified 12/12/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: mpt3sas: Avoid test/set_bit() operating in non-allocated memory There is a potential out-of-bounds access when using test_bit() on a single word. The test_bit() and set_bit() functions operate on long values, and when testing or setting a single word, they can exceed the word boundary. KASAN detects this issue and produces a dump: BUG: KASAN: slab-out-of-bounds in _scsih_add_device.constprop.0 (./arch/x86/include/asm/bitops.h:60 ./include/asm-generic/bitops/instrumented-atomic.h:29 drivers/scsi/mpt3sas/mpt3sas_scsih.c:7331) mpt3sas Write of size 8 at addr ffff8881d26e3c60 by task kworker/u1536:2/2965 For full log, please look at [1]. 4. Red Hat: CVE-2024-40923: kernel: vmxnet3: disable rx data ring on dma allocation failure (Multiple Advisories) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:M/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 07/12/2024 Created 12/06/2024 Added 12/05/2024 Modified 12/05/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vmxnet3: disable rx data ring on dma allocation failure When vmxnet3_rq_create() fails to allocate memory for rq->data_ring.base, the subsequent call to vmxnet3_rq_destroy_all_rxdataring does not reset rq->data_ring.desc_size for the data ring that failed, which presumably causes the hypervisor to reference it on packet reception. To fix this bug, rq->data_ring.desc_size needs to be set to 0 to tell the hypervisor to disable this feature. [ 95.436876] kernel BUG at net/core/skbuff.c:207! But registering sysfs precedes initializing rs->lock, so it is possible to change rs->interval to a non-zero value via the msg_ratelimit_interval_ms interface of sysfs while rs->lock is uninitialized, and then a call to ext4_msg triggers the problem by accessing an uninitialized rs->lock. Therefore register sysfs after all initializations are complete to avoid such problems. In any case, the best approach for preventing these lockups and to avoid spamming the log with thousands of error messages per second is to ratelimit the two dev_err() calls. Therefore we replace them with dev_err_ratelimited(). Existing drivers (idxd and uacce) only check the return value with IS_ERR(). This could potentially lead to a kernel NULL pointer dereference issue if the function returns NULL instead of an error pointer. In reality, this doesn't cause any problems because iommu_sva_bind_device() only returns NULL when the kernel is not configured with CONFIG_IOMMU_SVA. In this case, iommu_dev_enable_feature(dev, IOMMU_DEV_FEAT_SVA) will return an error, and the device drivers won't call iommu_sva_bind_device() at all. 14. Rocky Linux: CVE-2024-39502: kernel (Multiple Advisories) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 07/12/2024 Created 08/23/2024 Added 08/22/2024 Modified 11/18/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ionic: fix use after netif_napi_del() When queues are started, netif_napi_add() and napi_enable() are called. If there are 4 queues and only 3 queues are used for the current configuration, only 3 queues' napi should be registered and enabled. The ionic_qcq_enable() checks whether the .poll pointer is not NULL for enabling only the using queue' napi. Unused queues' napi will not be registered by netif_napi_add(), so the .poll pointer indicates NULL. But it couldn't distinguish whether the napi was unregistered or not because netif_napi_del() doesn't reset the .poll pointer to NULL. So, ionic_qcq_enable() calls napi_enable() for the queue, which was unregistered by netif_napi_del(). In this case we leave the rcu protected region, so force a refcount on the skb's destination entry before we enter the xfrm type input/output handlers." On TIPC decryption path it has the same problem, and skb_dst_force() should be called before doing decryption to avoid a possible crash. This change ensures that the event index is sanitized to mitigate any possibility of speculative information leaks.
