  1. SUSE: CVE-2024-35247: SUSE Linux Security Advisory Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 06/24/2024 Created 07/10/2024 Added 07/10/2024 Modified 02/06/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fpga: region: add owner module and take its refcount The current implementation of the fpga region assumes that the low-level module registers a driver for the parent device and uses its owner pointer to take the module's refcount. This approach is problematic since it can lead to a null pointer dereference while attempting to get the region during programming if the parent device does not have a driver. To address this problem, add a module owner pointer to the fpga_region struct and use it to take the module's refcount. Modify the functions for registering a region to take an additional owner module parameter and rename them to avoid conflicts. Use the old function names for helper macros that automatically set the module that registers the region as the owner. This ensures compatibility with existing low-level control modules and reduces the chances of registering a region without setting the owner. Also, update the documentation to keep it consistent with the new interface for registering an fpga region. 2. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-39291): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 06/24/2024 Created 09/13/2024 Added 09/12/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: Fix buffer size in gfx_v9_4_3_init_ cp_compute_microcode() and rlc_microcode() The function gfx_v9_4_3_init_microcode in gfx_v9_4_3.c was generating about potential truncation of output when using the snprintf function. The issue was due to the size of the buffer 'ucode_prefix' being too small to accommodate the maximum possible length of the string being written into it. The string being written is "amdgpu/%s_mec.bin" or "amdgpu/%s_rlc.bin", where %s is replaced by the value of 'chip_name'. The length of this string without the %s is 16 characters. The warning message indicated that 'chip_name' could be up to 29 characters long, resulting in a total of 45 characters, which exceeds the buffer size of 30 characters. To resolve this issue, the size of the 'ucode_prefix' buffer has been reduced from 30 to 15. This ensures that the maximum possible length of the string being written into the buffer will not exceed its size, thus preventing potential buffer overflow and truncation issues. Fixes the below with gcc W=1: drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/gfx_v9_4_3.c: In function ‘gfx_v9_4_3_early_init’: drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/gfx_v9_4_3.c:379:52: warning: ‘%s’ directive output may be truncated writing up to 29 bytes into a region of size 23 [-Wformat-truncation=] 379 | snprintf(fw_name, sizeof(fw_name), "amdgpu/%s_rlc.bin", chip_name); |^~ ...... 439 | r = gfx_v9_4_3_init_rlc_microcode(adev, ucode_prefix); | ~~~~~~~~~~~~ drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/gfx_v9_4_3.c:379:9: note: ‘snprintf’ output between 16 and 45 bytes into a destination of size 30 379 | snprintf(fw_name, sizeof(fw_name), "amdgpu/%s_rlc.bin", chip_name); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/gfx_v9_4_3.c:413:52: warning: ‘%s’ directive output may be truncated writing up to 29 bytes into a region of size 23 [-Wformat-truncation=] 413 | snprintf(fw_name, sizeof(fw_name), "amdgpu/%s_mec.bin", chip_name); |^~ ...... 443 | r = gfx_v9_4_3_init_cp_compute_microcode(adev, ucode_prefix); |~~~~~~~~~~~~ drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/gfx_v9_4_3.c:413:9: note: ‘snprintf’ output between 16 and 45 bytes into a destination of size 30 413 | snprintf(fw_name, sizeof(fw_name), "amdgpu/%s_mec.bin", chip_name); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution(s) ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1010-gke ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1011-raspi ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1012-ibm ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1012-oem ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1012-oracle ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1012-oracle-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1013-nvidia ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1013-nvidia-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1013-nvidia-lowlatency ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1013-nvidia-lowlatency-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1014-azure ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1014-azure-fde ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1014-gcp ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-1015-aws ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-44-generic ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-44-generic-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-44-lowlatency ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-44-lowlatency-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-45-generic ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-6-8-0-45-generic-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-aws ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-azure ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-azure-fde ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-gcp ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-64k-hwe-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-64k-hwe-24-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-hwe-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-hwe-24-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-generic-lpae ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-gke ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-ibm ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-ibm-classic ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-ibm-lts-24-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-kvm ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-lowlatency ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-lowlatency-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-lowlatency-64k-hwe-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-lowlatency-hwe-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia-6-8 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia-64k-6-8 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia-lowlatency ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-nvidia-lowlatency-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oem-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oem-22-04a ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oem-22-04b ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oem-22-04c ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oem-22-04d ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oracle ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-oracle-64k ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-raspi ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-virtual ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-virtual-hwe-22-04 ubuntu-upgrade-linux-image-virtual-hwe-24-04 References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-39291 CVE - 2024-39291 USN-6999-1 USN-6999-2 USN-7004-1 USN-7005-1 USN-7005-2 USN-7008-1 USN-7029-1 View more

  12. SUSE: CVE-2024-36479: SUSE Linux Security Advisory Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 06/24/2024 Created 07/10/2024 Added 07/10/2024 Modified 02/06/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fpga: bridge: add owner module and take its refcount The current implementation of the fpga bridge assumes that the low-level module registers a driver for the parent device and uses its owner pointer to take the module's refcount. This approach is problematic since it can lead to a null pointer dereference while attempting to get the bridge if the parent device does not have a driver. To address this problem, add a module owner pointer to the fpga_bridge struct and use it to take the module's refcount. Modify the function for registering a bridge to take an additional owner module parameter and rename it to avoid conflicts. Use the old function name for a helper macro that automatically sets the module that registers the bridge as the owner. This ensures compatibility with existing low-level control modules and reduces the chances of registering a bridge without setting the owner. Also, update the documentation to keep it consistent with the new interface for registering an fpga bridge. Other changes: opportunistically move put_device() from __fpga_bridge_get() to fpga_bridge_get() and of_fpga_bridge_get() to improve code clarity since the bridge device is taken in these functions. Debian: CVE-2024-38388: linux -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 06/21/2024 Created 07/31/2024 Added 07/30/2024 Modified 07/30/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: hda/cs_dsp_ctl: Use private_free for control cleanup Use the control private_free callback to free the associated data block. This ensures that the memory won't leak, whatever way the control gets destroyed. The original implementation didn't actually remove the ALSA controls in hda_cs_dsp_control_remove(). It only freed the internal tracking structure. This meant it was possible to remove/unload the amp driver while leaving its ALSA controls still present in the soundcard. Obviously attempting to access them could cause segfaults or at least dereferencing stale pointers. This code is however completely wrong and leads to an out-of-bounds access. We were just lucky so far since we used only a couple of PDIs and remained within the PDI array bounds. A Fixes: tag is not provided since there are no known platforms where the out-of-bounds would be accessed, and the initial code had problems as well. A follow-up patch completely removes this useless offset. Solution(s) debian-upgrade-linux References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-38635 CVE - 2024-38635 DSA-5730-1

Debian: CVE-2024-36489: linux -- security update Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 06/21/2024 Created 07/17/2024 Added 07/17/2024 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tls: fix missing memory barrier in tls_init In tls_init(), a write memory barrier is missing, and store-store reordering may cause NULL dereference in tls_{setsockopt,getsockopt}. CPU0 CPU1 ---------- // In tls_init() // In tls_ctx_create() ctx = kzalloc() ctx->sk_proto = READ_ONCE(sk->sk_prot) -(1) // In update_sk_prot() WRITE_ONCE(sk->sk_prot, tls_prots) -(2) // In sock_common_setsockopt() READ_ONCE(sk->sk_prot)->setsockopt() // In tls_{setsockopt,getsockopt}() ctx->sk_proto->setsockopt()-(3) In the above scenario, when (1) and (2) are reordered, (3) can observe the NULL value of ctx->sk_proto, causing NULL dereference. To fix it, we rely on rcu_assign_pointer() which implies the release barrier semantic. By moving rcu_assign_pointer() after ctx->sk_proto is initialized, we can ensure that ctx->sk_proto are visible when changing sk->sk_prot.
