VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-27059
VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-27059 Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: usb-storage: Prevent divide-by-0 error in isd200_ata_command The isd200 sub-driver in usb-storage uses the HEADS and SECTORS values in the ATA ID information to calculate cylinder and head values when creating a CDB for READ or WRITE commands.The calculation involves division and modulus operations, which will cause a crash if either of these values is 0.While this never happens with a genuine device, it could happen with a flawed or subversive emulation, as reported by the syzbot fuzzer. Protect against this possibility by refusing to bind to the device if either the ATA_ID_HEADS or ATA_ID_SECTORS value in the device's ID information is 0.This requires isd200_Initialization() to return a negative error code when initialization fails; currently it always returns 0 (even when there is an error). VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-27047
VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-27047 Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: phy: fix phy_get_internal_delay accessing an empty array The phy_get_internal_delay function could try to access to an empty array in the case that the driver is calling phy_get_internal_delay without defining delay_values and rx-internal-delay-ps or tx-internal-delay-ps is defined to 0 in the device-tree. This will lead to "unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0". To avoid this kernel oops, the test should be delay >= 0. As there is already delay < 0 test just before, the test could only be size == 0. Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-27047 CVE - 2024-27047

VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26955
VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26955 Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 05/01/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 01/20/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nilfs2: prevent kernel bug at submit_bh_wbc() Fix a bug where nilfs_get_block() returns a successful status when searching and inserting the specified block both fail inconsistently.If this inconsistent behavior is not due to a previously fixed bug, then an unexpected race is occurring, so return a temporary error -EAGAIN instead. This prevents callers such as __block_write_begin_int() from requesting a read into a buffer that is not mapped, which would cause the BUG_ON check for the BH_Mapped flag in submit_bh_wbc() to fail. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26956
VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26956 Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nilfs2: fix failure to detect DAT corruption in btree and direct mappings Patch series "nilfs2: fix kernel bug at submit_bh_wbc()". This resolves a kernel BUG reported by syzbot.Since there are two flaws involved, I've made each one a separate patch. The first patch alone resolves the syzbot-reported bug, but I think both fixes should be sent to stable, so I've tagged them as such. This patch (of 2): Syzbot has reported a kernel bug in submit_bh_wbc() when writing file data to a nilfs2 file system whose metadata is corrupted. There are two flaws involved in this issue. The first flaw is that when nilfs_get_block() locates a data block using btree or direct mapping, if the disk address translation routine nilfs_dat_translate() fails with internal code -ENOENT due to DAT metadata corruption, it can be passed back to nilfs_get_block().This causes nilfs_get_block() to misidentify an existing block as non-existent, causing both data block lookup and insertion to fail inconsistently. The second flaw is that nilfs_get_block() returns a successful status in this inconsistent state.This causes the caller __block_write_begin_int() or others to request a read even though the buffer is not mapped, resulting in a BUG_ON check for the BH_Mapped flag in submit_bh_wbc() failing. This fixes the first issue by changing the return value to code -EINVAL when a conversion using DAT fails with code -ENOENT, avoiding the conflicting condition that leads to the kernel bug described above.Here, code -EINVAL indicates that metadata corruption was detected during the block lookup, which will be properly handled as a file system error and converted to -EIO when passing through the nilfs2 bmap layer. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26937
VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26937 Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 05/01/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 01/20/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/i915/gt: Reset queue_priority_hint on parking Originally, with strict in order execution, we could complete execution only when the queue was empty. Preempt-to-busy allows replacement of an active request that may complete before the preemption is processed by HW. If that happens, the request is retired from the queue, but the queue_priority_hint remains set, preventing direct submission until after the next CS interrupt is processed. This preempt-to-busy race can be triggered by the heartbeat, which will also act as the power-management barrier and upon completion allow us to idle the HW. We may process the completion of the heartbeat, and begin parking the engine before the CS event that restores the queue_priority_hint, causing us to fail the assertion that it is MIN. <3>[166.210729] __engine_park:283 GEM_BUG_ON(engine->sched_engine->queue_priority_hint != (-((int)(~0U >> 1)) - 1)) <0>[166.210781] Dumping ftrace buffer: <0>[166.210795] --------------------------------- ... <0>[167.302811] drm_fdin-10972..s1. 165741070us : trace_ports: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: promote { ccid:20 1217:2 prio 0 } <0>[167.302861] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741072us : execlists_submission_tasklet: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: preempting last=1217:2, prio=0, hint=2147483646 <0>[167.302928] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741072us : __i915_request_unsubmit: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 1217:2, current 0 <0>[167.302992] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741073us : __i915_request_submit: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 3:4660, current 4659 <0>[167.303044] drm_fdin-10972d.s1. 165741076us : execlists_submission_tasklet: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:3 schedule-in, ccid:40 <0>[167.303095] drm_fdin-10972d.s1. 165741077us : trace_ports: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: submit { ccid:40 3:4660* prio 2147483646 } <0>[167.303159] kworker/-89 11..... 165741139us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence c90:2, current 2 <0>[167.303208] kworker/-89 11..... 165741148us : __intel_context_do_unpin: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:c90 unpin <0>[167.303272] kworker/-89 11..... 165741159us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 1217:2, current 2 <0>[167.303321] kworker/-89 11..... 165741166us : __intel_context_do_unpin: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1217 unpin <0>[167.303384] kworker/-89 11..... 165741170us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 3:4660, current 4660 <0>[167.303434] kworker/-89 11d..1. 165741172us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1216 retire runtime: { total:56028ns, avg:56028ns } <0>[167.303484] kworker/-89 11..... 165741198us : __engine_park: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: parked <0>[167.303534] <idle>-0 5d.H3. 165741207us : execlists_irq_handler: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: semaphore yield: 00000040 <0>[167.303583] kworker/-89 11..... 165741397us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1217 retire runtime: { total:325575ns, avg:0ns } <0>[167.303756] kworker/-89 11..... 165741777us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:c90 retire runtime: { total:0ns, avg:0ns } <0>[167.303806] kworker/-89 11..... 165742017us : __engine_park: __engine_park:283 GEM_BUG_ON(engine->sched_engine->queue_priority_hint != (-((int)(~0U >> 1)) - 1)) <0>[167.303811] --------------------------------- <4>[167.304722] ------------[ cut here ]------------ <2>[167.304725] kernel BUG at drivers/gpu/drm/i915/gt/intel_engine_pm.c:283! <4>[167.304731] invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP NOPTI <4>[167.304734] CPU: 11 PID: 89 Comm: kworker/11:1 Tainted: GW6.8.0-rc2-CI_DRM_14193-gc655e0fd2804+ #1 <4>[167.304736] Hardware name: Intel Corporation Rocket Lake Client Platform/RocketLake S UDIMM 6L RVP, BIOS RKLSFWI1.R00.3173.A03.2204210138 04/21/2022 <4>[167.304738] Workqueue: i915-unordered retire_work_handler [i915] <4>[16 ---truncated--- Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-26937 CVE - 2024-26937

Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-26933: Important priority package update for kernel
Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-26933: Important priority package update for kernel Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 02/14/2025 Added 02/14/2025 Modified 02/14/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: core: Fix deadlock in port "disable" sysfs attribute The show and store callback routines for the "disable" sysfs attribute file in port.c acquire the device lock for the port's parent hub device.This can cause problems if another process has locked the hub to remove it or change its configuration: Removing the hub or changing its configuration requires the hub interface to be removed, which requires the port device to be removed, and device_del() waits until all outstanding sysfs attribute callbacks for the ports have returned.The lock can't be released until then. But the disable_show() or disable_store() routine can't return until after it has acquired the lock. The resulting deadlock can be avoided by calling sysfs_break_active_protection().This will cause the sysfs core not to wait for the attribute's callback routine to return, allowing the removal to proceed.The disadvantage is that after making this call, there is no guarantee that the hub structure won't be deallocated at any moment.To prevent this, we have to acquire a reference to it first by calling hub_get(). Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-26934: Important priority package update for kernel Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 02/14/2025 Added 02/14/2025 Modified 02/14/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: USB: core: Fix deadlock in usb_deauthorize_interface() Among the attribute file callback routines in drivers/usb/core/sysfs.c, the interface_authorized_store() function is the only one which acquires a device lock on an ancestor device: It calls usb_deauthorize_interface(), which locks the interface's parent USB device. The will lead to deadlock if another process already owns that lock and tries to remove the interface, whether through a configuration change or because the device has been disconnected.As part of the removal procedure, device_del() waits for all ongoing sysfs attribute callbacks to complete.But usb_deauthorize_interface() can't complete until the device lock has been released, and the lock won't be released until the removal has finished. The mechanism provided by sysfs to prevent this kind of deadlock is to use the sysfs_break_active_protection() function, which tells sysfs not to wait for the attribute callback. Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-26937: Important priority package update for kernel
Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-26937: Important priority package update for kernel Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 02/14/2025 Added 02/14/2025 Modified 02/14/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/i915/gt: Reset queue_priority_hint on parking Originally, with strict in order execution, we could complete execution only when the queue was empty. Preempt-to-busy allows replacement of an active request that may complete before the preemption is processed by HW. If that happens, the request is retired from the queue, but the queue_priority_hint remains set, preventing direct submission until after the next CS interrupt is processed. This preempt-to-busy race can be triggered by the heartbeat, which will also act as the power-management barrier and upon completion allow us to idle the HW. We may process the completion of the heartbeat, and begin parking the engine before the CS event that restores the queue_priority_hint, causing us to fail the assertion that it is MIN. <3>[166.210729] __engine_park:283 GEM_BUG_ON(engine->sched_engine->queue_priority_hint != (-((int)(~0U >> 1)) - 1)) <0>[166.210781] Dumping ftrace buffer: <0>[166.210795] --------------------------------- ... <0>[167.302811] drm_fdin-10972..s1. 165741070us : trace_ports: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: promote { ccid:20 1217:2 prio 0 } <0>[167.302861] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741072us : execlists_submission_tasklet: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: preempting last=1217:2, prio=0, hint=2147483646 <0>[167.302928] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741072us : __i915_request_unsubmit: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 1217:2, current 0 <0>[167.302992] drm_fdin-10972d.s2. 165741073us : __i915_request_submit: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 3:4660, current 4659 <0>[167.303044] drm_fdin-10972d.s1. 165741076us : execlists_submission_tasklet: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:3 schedule-in, ccid:40 <0>[167.303095] drm_fdin-10972d.s1. 165741077us : trace_ports: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: submit { ccid:40 3:4660* prio 2147483646 } <0>[167.303159] kworker/-89 11..... 165741139us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence c90:2, current 2 <0>[167.303208] kworker/-89 11..... 165741148us : __intel_context_do_unpin: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:c90 unpin <0>[167.303272] kworker/-89 11..... 165741159us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 1217:2, current 2 <0>[167.303321] kworker/-89 11..... 165741166us : __intel_context_do_unpin: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1217 unpin <0>[167.303384] kworker/-89 11..... 165741170us : i915_request_retire.part.0: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: fence 3:4660, current 4660 <0>[167.303434] kworker/-89 11d..1. 165741172us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1216 retire runtime: { total:56028ns, avg:56028ns } <0>[167.303484] kworker/-89 11..... 165741198us : __engine_park: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: parked <0>[167.303534] <idle>-0 5d.H3. 165741207us : execlists_irq_handler: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: semaphore yield: 00000040 <0>[167.303583] kworker/-89 11..... 165741397us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:1217 retire runtime: { total:325575ns, avg:0ns } <0>[167.303756] kworker/-89 11..... 165741777us : __intel_context_retire: 0000:00:02.0 rcs0: context:c90 retire runtime: { total:0ns, avg:0ns } <0>[167.303806] kworker/-89 11..... 165742017us : __engine_park: __engine_park:283 GEM_BUG_ON(engine->sched_engine->queue_priority_hint != (-((int)(~0U >> 1)) - 1)) <0>[167.303811] --------------------------------- <4>[167.304722] ------------[ cut here ]------------ <2>[167.304725] kernel BUG at drivers/gpu/drm/i915/gt/intel_engine_pm.c:283! <4>[167.304731] invalid opcode: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP NOPTI <4>[167.304734] CPU: 11 PID: 89 Comm: kworker/11:1 Tainted: GW6.8.0-rc2-CI_DRM_14193-gc655e0fd2804+ #1 <4>[167.304736] Hardware name: Intel Corporation Rocket Lake Client Platform/RocketLake S UDIMM 6L RVP, BIOS RKLSFWI1.R00.3173.A03.2204210138 04/21/2022 <4>[167.304738] Workqueue: i915-unordered retire_work_handler [i915] <4>[16 ---truncated--- Solution(s) amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-bpftool amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-bpftool-debuginfo amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-debuginfo amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-debuginfo-common-aarch64 amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-debuginfo-common-x86-64 amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-devel amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-headers amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-libbpf amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-libbpf-devel amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-libbpf-static amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-livepatch-6-1-84-99-169 amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-modules-extra amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-modules-extra-common amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-tools amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-tools-debuginfo amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-kernel-tools-devel amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-perf amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-perf-debuginfo amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-python3-perf amazon-linux-2023-upgrade-python3-perf-debuginfo References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-26937 CVE - 2024-26937 https://alas.aws.amazon.com/AL2023/ALAS-2024-696.html

We could prevent from that race by serializing i915_active_fini() with __active_retire() via ref->tree_lock, but that wouldn't stop the VMA from being used, e.g. from __i915_vma_retire() called at the end of __active_retire(), after that VMA has been already freed by a concurrent i915_vma_destroy() on return from the i915_active_fini().Then, we should rather fix the issue at the VMA level, not in i915_active. Since __i915_vma_parked() is called from __gt_park() on last put of the GT's wakeref, the issue could be addressed by holding the GT wakeref long enough for __active_retire() to complete before that wakeref is released and the GT parked. I believe the issue was introduced by commit d93939730347 ("drm/i915: Remove the vma refcount") which moved a call to i915_active_fini() from a dropped i915_vma_release(), called on last put of the removed VMA kref, to i915_vma_parked() processing path called on last put of a GT wakeref. However, its visibility to the object debugging tool was suppressed by a bug in i915_active that was fixed two weeks later with commit e92eb246feb9 ("drm/i915/active: Fix missing debug object activation"). A VMA associated with a request doesn't acquire a GT wakeref by itself. Instead, it depends on a wakeref held directly by the request's active intel_context for a GT associated with its VM, and indirectly on that intel_context's engine wakeref if the engine belongs to the same GT as the VMA's VM.Those wakerefs are released asynchronously to VMA deactivation. Fix the issue by getting a wakeref for the VMA's GT when activating it, and putting that wakeref only after the VMA is deactivated.However, exclude global GTT from that processing path, otherwise the GPU never goes idle.Since __i915_vma_retire() may be called from atomic contexts, use async variant of wakeref put.Also, to avoid circular locking dependency, take care of acquiring the wakeref before VM mutex when both are needed. v7: Add inline comments with justifications for: - using untracked variants of intel_gt_pm_get/put() (Nirmoy), - using async variant of _put(), - not getting the wakeref in case of a global GTT, - always getting the first wakeref outside vm->mutex. v6: Since __i915_vma_active/retire() callbacks are not serialized, storing a wakeref tracking handle inside struct i915_vma is not safe, and there is no other good place for that.Use untracked variants of intel_gt_pm_get/put_async(). v5: Replace "tile" with "GT" across commit description (Rodrigo), - ---truncated--- A use-after-free flaw was found in drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_vma.c in the Linux kernel that may lead to a crash. Fix the leak by adding an explicit kobject_put() call when kn is NULL. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-27008: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 05/01/2024 Created 07/17/2024 Added 07/17/2024 Modified 01/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm: nv04: Fix out of bounds access When Output Resource (dcb->or) value is assigned in fabricate_dcb_output(), there may be out of bounds access to dac_users array in case dcb->or is zero because ffs(dcb->or) is used as index there. The 'or' argument of fabricate_dcb_output() must be interpreted as a number of bit to set, not value. Utilize macros from 'enum nouveau_or' in calls instead of hardcoding. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26961: kernel security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 05/01/2024 Created 07/17/2024 Added 07/17/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mac802154: fix llsec key resources release in mac802154_llsec_key_del mac802154_llsec_key_del() can free resources of a key directly without following the RCU rules for waiting before the end of a grace period. Note that if llsec_lookup_key() finds a key, it gets a refcount via llsec_key_get() and locally copies key id from key_entry (which is a list element). So it's safe to call llsec_key_put() and free the list entry after the RCU grace period elapses. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org).
