I also spot checked all the other instances of checking mirror_ds and we appear to be doing the correct checks everywhere, only unconditionally dereferencing mirror_ds when we know it would be valid. 3. SUSE: CVE-2024-26874: SUSE Linux Security Advisory Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 06/13/2024 Added 06/12/2024 Modified 06/26/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/mediatek: Fix a null pointer crash in mtk_drm_crtc_finish_page_flip It's possible that mtk_crtc->event is NULL in mtk_drm_crtc_finish_page_flip(). pending_needs_vblank value is set by mtk_crtc->event, but in mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_flush(), it's is not guarded by the same lock in mtk_drm_finish_page_flip(), thus a race condition happens. Consider the following case: CPU1CPU2 step 1: mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_begin() mtk_crtc->event is not null, step 1: mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_flush: mtk_drm_crtc_update_config( !!mtk_crtc->event) step 2: mtk_crtc_ddp_irq -> mtk_drm_finish_page_flip: lock mtk_crtc->event set to null, pending_needs_vblank set to false unlock pending_needs_vblank set to true, step 2: mtk_crtc_ddp_irq -> mtk_drm_finish_page_flip called again, pending_needs_vblank is still true //null pointer Instead of guarding the entire mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_flush(), it's more efficient to just check if mtk_crtc->event is null before use. 4. Alpine Linux: CVE-2024-32462: Vulnerability in Multiple Components Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:N) Published 04/18/2024 Created 08/23/2024 Added 08/22/2024 Modified 10/02/2024 Description Flatpak is a system for building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. in versions before 1.10.9, 1.12.9, 1.14.6, and 1.15.8, a malicious or compromised Flatpak app could execute arbitrary code outside its sandbox. Normally, the `--command` argument of `flatpak run` expects to be given a command to run in the specified Flatpak app, optionally along with some arguments. However it is possible to instead pass `bwrap` arguments to `--command=`, such as `--bind`. It's possible to pass an arbitrary `commandline` to the portal interface `org.freedesktop.portal.Background.RequestBackground` from within a Flatpak app. When this is converted into a `--command` and arguments, it achieves the same effect of passing arguments directly to `bwrap`, and thus can be used for a sandbox escape. The solution is to pass the `--` argument to `bwrap`, which makes it stop processing options. This has been supported since bubblewrap 0.3.0. All supported versions of Flatpak require at least that version of bubblewrap. xdg-desktop-portal version 1.18.4 will mitigate this vulnerability by only allowing Flatpak apps to create .desktop files for commands that do not start with --. The vulnerability is patched in 1.15.8, 1.10.9, 1.12.9, and 1.14.6. 5. Alpine Linux: CVE-2024-32473: Vulnerability in Multiple Components Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:H/Au:N/C:C/I:N/A:N) Published 04/18/2024 Created 08/23/2024 Added 08/22/2024 Modified 10/02/2024 Description Moby is an open source container framework that is a key component of Docker Engine, Docker Desktop, and other distributions of container tooling or runtimes. In 26.0.0, IPv6 is not disabled on network interfaces, including those belonging to networks where `--ipv6=false`. An container with an `ipvlan` or `macvlan` interface will normally be configured to share an external network link with the host machine. Because of this direct access, (1) Containers may be able to communicate with other hosts on the local network over link-local IPv6 addresses, (2) if router advertisements are being broadcast over the local network, containers may get SLAAC-assigned addresses, and (3) the interfacewill be a member of IPv6 multicast groups. This means interfaces in IPv4-only networks present an unexpectedly and unnecessarily increased attack surface. The issue is patched in 26.0.2. To completely disable IPv6 in a container, use `--sysctl=net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1` in the `docker create` or `docker run` command. Or, in the service configuration of a `compose` file. Amazon Linux 2023: CVE-2024-32462: Important priority package update for flatpak Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:N) Published 04/18/2024 Created 02/14/2025 Added 02/14/2025 Modified 02/14/2025 Description Flatpak is a system for building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. in versions before 1.10.9, 1.12.9, 1.14.6, and 1.15.8, a malicious or compromised Flatpak app could execute arbitrary code outside its sandbox. A flaw was found in Flatpak, a system for building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. Normally, the "--command" argument of "flatpak run" expects being given a command to run in the specified Flatpak app, along with optional arguments. However, it is possible to pass bwrap arguments to "--command=" instead, such as "--bind". It is possible to pass an arbitrary "commandline" to the portal interface "org.freedesktop.portal.Background.RequestBackground" within the Flatpak app. This is normally safe because it can only specify a command that exists inside the sandbox. When a crafted "commandline" is converted into a "--command" and arguments, the app could achieve the same effect of passing arguments directly to bwrap to achieve sandbox escape. 8. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2023-52645 Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:H/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: pmdomain: mediatek: fix race conditions with genpd If the power domains are registered first with genpd and *after that* the driver attempts to power them on in the probe sequence, then it is possible that a race condition occurs if genpd tries to power them on in the same time. The same is valid for powering them off before unregistering them from genpd. Attempt to fix race conditions by first removing the domains from genpd and *after that* powering down domains. Also first power up the domains and *after that* register them to genpd. Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2023-52645 CVE - 2023-52645
 9. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26910 Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:H/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: ipset: fix performance regression in swap operation The patch "netfilter: ipset: fix race condition between swap/destroy and kernel side add/del/test", commit 28628fa9 fixes a race condition. But the synchronize_rcu() added to the swap function unnecessarily slows it down: it can safely be moved to destroy and use call_rcu() instead. Eric Dumazet pointed out that simply calling the destroy functions as rcu callback does not work: sets with timeout use garbage collectors which need cancelling at destroy which can wait. Therefore the destroy functions are split into two: cancelling garbage collectors safely at executing the command received by netlink and moving the remaining part only into the rcu callback. This results in the fix-up setup by bpf not being applied and a page_fault_oops() is invoked due to SMAP. Considering handle_page_fault() has already considered the vsyscall page address as a userspace address, fix the problem by disallowing vsyscall page read for copy_from_kernel_nofault(). 12. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26884 Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix hashtab overflow check on 32-bit arches The hashtab code relies on roundup_pow_of_two() to compute the number of hash buckets, and contains an overflow check by checking if the resulting value is 0. However, on 32-bit arches, the roundup code itself can overflow by doing a 32-bit left-shift of an unsigned long value, which is undefined behaviour, so it is not guaranteed to truncate neatly. This was triggered by syzbot on the DEVMAP_HASH type, which contains the same check, copied from the hashtab code. So apply the same fix to hashtab, by moving the overflow check to before the roundup. Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-26884 CVE - 2024-26884
 13. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26883 Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix stackmap overflow check on 32-bit arches The stackmap code relies on roundup_pow_of_two() to compute the number of hash buckets, and contains an overflow check by checking if the resulting value is 0. The commit in the fixes tag actually attempted to fix this, but the fix did not account for the UB, so the fix only works on CPUs where an overflow does result in a neat truncation to zero, which is not guaranteed. Checking the value before rounding does not have this problem. Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-26883 CVE - 2024-26883

This seems to be because an event handler is registered before the srpt device is fully setup and a race condition upon error may leave a partially setup event handler in place. Instead, only register the event handler after srpt device initialization is complete. 21. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-26825 Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 01/20/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfc: nci: free rx_data_reassembly skb on NCI device cleanup rx_data_reassembly skb is stored during NCI data exchange for processing fragmented packets. It is dropped only when the last fragment is processed or when an NTF packet with NCI_OP_RF_DEACTIVATE_NTF opcode is received. However, the NCI device may be deallocated before that which leads to skb leak. As by design the rx_data_reassembly skb is bound to the NCI device and nothing prevents the device to be freed before the skb is processed in some way and cleaned, free it on the NCI device cleanup. 25. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26846: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/16/2024 Added 07/16/2024 Modified 12/12/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvme-fc: do not wait in vain when unloading module The module exit path has race between deleting all controllers and freeing 'left over IDs'. To prevent double free a synchronization between nvme_delete_ctrl and ida_destroy has been added by the initial commit. There is some logic around trying to prevent from hanging forever in wait_for_completion, though it does not handling all cases. E.g. blktests is able to reproduce the situation where the module unload hangs forever. If we completely rely on the cleanup code executed from the nvme_delete_ctrl path, all IDs will be freed eventually. This makes calling ida_destroy unnecessary. We only have to ensure that all nvme_delete_ctrl code has been executed before we leave nvme_fc_exit_module. This is done by flushing the nvme_delete_wq workqueue. While at it, remove the unused nvme_fc_wq workqueue too.
