  2. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-26891): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/02/2024 Added 07/01/2024 Modified 11/20/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iommu/vt-d: Don't issue ATS Invalidation request when device is disconnected For those endpoint devices connect to system via hotplug capable ports, users could request a hot reset to the device by flapping device's link through setting the slot's link control register, as pciehp_ist() DLLSC interrupt sequence response, pciehp will unload the device driver and then power it off. thus cause an IOMMU device-TLB invalidation (Intel VT-d spec, or ATS Invalidation in PCIe spec r6.1) request for non-existence target device to be sent and deadly loop to retry that request after ITE fault triggered in interrupt context. 3. Ubuntu: (CVE-2024-26854): linux-raspi-realtime vulnerability Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 02/12/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/11/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: fix uninitialized dplls mutex usage The pf->dplls.lock mutex is initialized too late, after its first use. However, this is the responsibility of the caller of the ndo_xdp_xmit (see for example bq_xmit_all in kernel/bpf/devmap.c) and thus calling it inside igc_xdp_xmit (which is the ndo_xdp_xmit of the igc driver) as well will lead to memory corruption. In fact, bq_xmit_all expects that it can return all frames after the last successfully transmitted one. Therefore, break for the first not transmitted frame, but do not call xdp_return_frame_rx_napi in igc_xdp_xmit. This is equally implemented in other Intel drivers such as the igb. There are two alternatives to this that were rejected: 1. Return num_frames as all the frames would have been transmitted and release them inside igc_xdp_xmit. While it might work technically, it is not what the return value is meant to represent (i.e. the number of SUCCESSFULLY transmitted packets). 2. Rework kernel/bpf/devmap.c and all drivers to support non-consecutively dropped packets. Besides being complex, it likely has a negative performance impact without a significant gain since it is anyway unlikely that the next frame can be transmitted if the previous one was dropped. The memory corruption can be reproduced with the following script which leads to a kernel panic after a few seconds. It basically generates more traffic than a i225 NIC can transmit and pushes it via XDP_REDIRECT from a virtual interface to the physical interface where frames get dropped. #!/bin/bash INTERFACE=enp4s0 INTERFACE_IDX=`cat /sys/class/net/$INTERFACE/ifindex` sudo ip link add dev veth1 type veth peer name veth2 sudo ip link set up $INTERFACE sudo ip link set up veth1 sudo ip link set up veth2 cat << EOF > redirect.bpf.c SEC("prog") int redirect(struct xdp_md *ctx) { return bpf_redirect($INTERFACE_IDX, 0); } char _license[] SEC("license") = "GPL"; EOF clang -O2 -g -Wall -target bpf -c redirect.bpf.c -o redirect.bpf.o sudo ip link set veth2 xdp obj redirect.bpf.o cat << EOF > pass.bpf.c SEC("prog") int pass(struct xdp_md *ctx) { return XDP_PASS; } char _license[] SEC("license") = "GPL"; EOF clang -O2 -g -Wall -target bpf -c pass.bpf.c -o pass.bpf.o sudo ip link set $INTERFACE xdp obj pass.bpf.o cat << EOF > trafgen.cfg { /* Ethernet Header */ 0xe8, 0x6a, 0x64, 0x41, 0xbf, 0x46, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, 0xFF, const16(ETH_P_IP), /* IPv4 Header */ 0b01000101, 0, # IPv4 version, IHL, TOS const16(1028), # IPv4 total length (UDP length + 20 bytes (IP header)) const16(2),# IPv4 ident 0b01000000, 0, # IPv4 flags, fragmentation off 64,# IPv4 TTL 17,# Protocol UDP csumip(14, 33),# IPv4 checksum /* UDP Header */ 10,0, 1, 1,# IP Src - adapt as needed 10,0, 1, 2,# IP Dest - adapt as needed const16(6666), # UDP Src Port const16(6666), # UDP Dest Port const16(1008), # UDP length (UDP header 8 bytes + payload length) csumudp(14, 34), # UDP checksum /* Payload */ fill('W', 1000), } EOF sudo trafgen -i trafgen.cfg -b3000MB -o veth1 --cpp Solution(s) ubuntu-upgrade-linux-raspi-realtime References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-26853 CVE - 2024-26853 https://git.kernel.org/linus/ef27f655b438bed4c83680e4f01e1cde2739854b https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/1b3b8231386a572bac8cd5b6fd7e944b84f9bb1f https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/63a3c1f3c9ecc654d851e7906d05334cd0c236e2 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8df393af9e7e8dfd62e9c41dbaa4d2ff53bf794a https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ef27f655b438bed4c83680e4f01e1cde2739854b https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2024-26853 View more

  7. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-26846): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/02/2024 Added 07/01/2024 Modified 07/29/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvme-fc: do not wait in vain when unloading module The module exit path has race between deleting all controllers and freeing 'left over IDs'. To prevent double free a synchronization between nvme_delete_ctrl and ida_destroy has been added by the initial commit. There is some logic around trying to prevent from hanging forever in wait_for_completion, though it does not handling all cases. E.g. blktests is able to reproduce the situation where the module unload hangs forever. If we completely rely on the cleanup code executed from the nvme_delete_ctrl path, all IDs will be freed eventually. This makes calling ida_destroy unnecessary. We only have to ensure that all nvme_delete_ctrl code has been executed before we leave nvme_fc_exit_module. This is done by flushing the nvme_delete_wq workqueue. While at it, remove the unused nvme_fc_wq workqueue too. 14. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26872: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/16/2024 Added 07/16/2024 Modified 12/12/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: RDMA/srpt: Do not register event handler until srpt device is fully setup Upon rare occasions, KASAN reports a use-after-free Write in srpt_refresh_port(). This seems to be because an event handler is registered before the srpt device is fully setup and a race condition upon error may leave a partially setup event handler in place. Instead, only register the event handler after srpt device initialization is complete. 15. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26884: kernel security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/16/2024 Added 07/16/2024 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix hashtab overflow check on 32-bit arches The hashtab code relies on roundup_pow_of_two() to compute the number of hash buckets, and contains an overflow check by checking if the resulting value is 0. However, on 32-bit arches, the roundup code itself can overflow by doing a 32-bit left-shift of an unsigned long value, which is undefined behaviour, so it is not guaranteed to truncate neatly. This was triggered by syzbot on the DEVMAP_HASH type, which contains the same check, copied from the hashtab code. So apply the same fix to hashtab, by moving the overflow check to before the roundup. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26859: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/17/2024 Added 07/17/2024 Modified 01/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/bnx2x: Prevent access to a freed page in page_pool Fix race condition leading to system crash during EEH error handling During EEH error recovery, the bnx2x driver's transmit timeout logic could cause a race condition when handling reset tasks. The bnx2x_tx_timeout() schedules reset tasks via bnx2x_sp_rtnl_task(), which ultimately leads to bnx2x_nic_unload(). In bnx2x_nic_unload() SGEs are freed using bnx2x_free_rx_sge_range(). However, this could overlap with the EEH driver's attempt to reset the device using bnx2x_io_slot_reset(), which also tries to free SGEs. Amazon Linux AMI 2: CVE-2024-26870: Security patch for kernel (Multiple Advisories) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 12/21/2024 Added 12/20/2024 Modified 12/20/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSv4.2: fix nfs4_listxattr kernel BUG at mm/usercopy.c:102 A call to listxattr() with a buffer size = 0 returns the actual size of the buffer needed for a subsequent call. When size > 0, nfs4_listxattr() does not return an error because either generic_listxattr() or nfs4_listxattr_nfs4_label() consumes exactly all the bytes then size is 0 when calling nfs4_listxattr_nfs4_user() which then triggers the following kernel BUG: [ 99.403778] kernel BUG at mm/usercopy.c:102!
