  1. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26820: kernel security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 12/13/2024 Added 12/12/2024 Modified 12/12/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hv_netvsc: Register VF in netvsc_probe if NET_DEVICE_REGISTER missed If hv_netvsc driver is unloaded and reloaded, the NET_DEVICE_REGISTER handler cannot perform VF register successfully as the register call is received before netvsc_probe is finished. This is because we register register_netdevice_notifier() very early( even before vmbus_driver_register()). To fix this, we try to register each such matching VF( if it is visible as a netdevice) at the end of netvsc_probe. 7. Alma Linux: CVE-2024-26846: Important: kernel security update (ALSA-2024-7000) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 09/27/2024 Added 09/26/2024 Modified 09/26/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvme-fc: do not wait in vain when unloading module The module exit path has race between deleting all controllers and freeing 'left over IDs'. To prevent double free a synchronization between nvme_delete_ctrl and ida_destroy has been added by the initial commit. There is some logic around trying to prevent from hanging forever in wait_for_completion, though it does not handling all cases. E.g. blktests is able to reproduce the situation where the module unload hangs forever. If we completely rely on the cleanup code executed from the nvme_delete_ctrl path, all IDs will be freed eventually. This makes calling ida_destroy unnecessary. We only have to ensure that all nvme_delete_ctrl code has been executed before we leave nvme_fc_exit_module. This is done by flushing the nvme_delete_wq workqueue. While at it, remove the unused nvme_fc_wq workqueue too. 8. Alma Linux: CVE-2024-26826: Important: kernel security and bug fix update (Multiple Advisories) Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/03/2024 Added 07/03/2024 Modified 11/04/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: fix data re-injection from stale subflow When the MPTCP PM detects that a subflow is stale, all the packet scheduler must re-inject all the mptcp-level unacked data. To avoid acquiring unneeded locks, it first try to check if any unacked data is present at all in the RTX queue, but such check is currently broken, as it uses TCP-specific helper on an MPTCP socket. Funnily enough fuzzers and static checkers are happy, as the accessed memory still belongs to the mptcp_sock struct, and even from a functional perspective the recovery completed successfully, as the short-cut test always failed. A recent unrelated TCP change - commit d5fed5addb2b ("tcp: reorganize tcp_sock fast path variables") - exposed the issue, as the tcp field reorganization makes the mptcp code always skip the re-inection. Fix the issue dropping the bogus call: we are on a slow path, the early optimization proved once again to be evil. 11. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26898: kernel security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 10/09/2024 Added 10/08/2024 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: aoe: fix the potential use-after-free problem in aoecmd_cfg_pkts This patch is against CVE-2023-6270. The description of cve is: A flaw was found in the ATA over Ethernet (AoE) driver in the Linux kernel. The aoecmd_cfg_pkts() function improperly updates the refcnt on `struct net_device`, and a use-after-free can be triggered by racing between the free on the struct and the access through the `skbtxq` global queue. This could lead to a denial of service condition or potential code execution. In aoecmd_cfg_pkts(), it always calls dev_put(ifp) when skb initial code is finished. But the net_device ifp will still be used in later tx()->dev_queue_xmit() in kthread. Which means that the dev_put(ifp) should NOT be called in the success path of skb initial code in aoecmd_cfg_pkts(). Otherwise tx() may run into use-after-free because the net_device is freed. This patch removed the dev_put(ifp) in the success path in aoecmd_cfg_pkts(), and added dev_put() after skb xmit in tx(). 12. Red Hat JBossEAP: Out-of-bounds Write (CVE-2024-2961) Severity 6 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 12/24/2024 Added 12/20/2024 Modified 12/20/2024 Description The iconv() function in the GNU C Library versions 2.39 and older may overflow the output buffer passed to it by up to 4 bytes when converting strings to the ISO-2022-CN-EXT character set, which may be used to crash an application or overwrite a neighbouring variable.. An out-of-bounds write flaw was found in the ISO-2022-CN-EXT plugin for glibc's iconv library. When converting from UCS4 charset, adding certain escape charterers is required to indicate where the charset was changed to the library. During this process, iconv improperly checks the boundaries of internal buffers, leading to a buffer overflow, which allows writing up to 3 bytes outside the desired memory location. This issue may allow an attacker to craft a malicious characters sequence that will trigger the out-of-bounds write and perform remote code execution, presenting a high impact to the Integrity, Confidentiality, and Availability triad. 14. Huawei EulerOS: CVE-2024-26883: kernel security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 10/09/2024 Added 10/08/2024 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix stackmap overflow check on 32-bit arches The stackmap code relies on roundup_pow_of_two() to compute the number of hash buckets, and contains an overflow check by checking if the resulting value is 0. However, on 32-bit arches, the roundup code itself can overflow by doing a 32-bit left-shift of an unsigned long value, which is undefined behaviour, so it is not guaranteed to truncate neatly. This was triggered by syzbot on the DEVMAP_HASH type, which contains the same check, copied from the hashtab code. The commit in the fixes tag actually attempted to fix this, but the fix did not account for the UB, so the fix only works on CPUs where an overflow does result in a neat truncation to zero, which is not guaranteed. Checking the value before rounding does not have this problem. 15. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-26831): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/15/2024 Added 07/15/2024 Modified 08/06/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/handshake: Fix handshake_req_destroy_test1 Recently, handshake_req_destroy_test1 started failing: Expected handshake_req_destroy_test == req, but handshake_req_destroy_test == 0000000000000000 req == 0000000060f99b40 not ok 11 req_destroy works This is because "sock_release(sock)" was replaced with "fput(filp)" to address a memory leak. Note that sock_release() is synchronous but fput() usually delays the final close and clean-up. The delay is not consequential in the other cases that were changed but handshake_req_destroy_test1 is testing that handshake_req_cancel() followed by closing the file actually does call the ->hp_destroy method. Thus the PTR_EQ test at the end has to be sure that the final close is complete before it checks the pointer. We cannot use a completion here because if ->hp_destroy is never called (ie, there is an API bug) then the test will hang. This is because we register register_netdevice_notifier() very early( even before vmbus_driver_register()). Since multiple protocols might share the same transport_info member, chan_free() might want to clean up the same member multiple times within the given SCMI transport implementation. In this case, it is SMC transport. 23. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-26885): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/02/2024 Added 07/01/2024 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix DEVMAP_HASH overflow check on 32-bit arches The devmap code allocates a number hash buckets equal to the next power of two of the max_entries value provided when creating the map. When rounding up to the next power of two, the 32-bit variable storing the number of buckets can overflow, and the code checks for overflow by checking if the truncated 32-bit value is equal to 0. However, on 32-bit arches the rounding up itself can overflow mid-way through, because it ends up doing a left-shift of 32 bits on an unsigned long value. If the size of an unsigned long is four bytes, this is undefined behaviour, so there is no guarantee that we'll end up with a nice and tidy 0-value at the end. Syzbot managed to turn this into a crash on arm32 by creating a DEVMAP_HASH with max_entries > 0x80000000 and then trying to update it. Fix this by moving the overflow check to before the rounding up operation. 24. Ubuntu: (Multiple Advisories) (CVE-2024-26859): Linux kernel vulnerabilities Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 04/17/2024 Created 07/02/2024 Added 07/01/2024 Modified 07/29/2024 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/bnx2x: Prevent access to a freed page in page_pool Fix race condition leading to system crash during EEH error handling During EEH error recovery, the bnx2x driver's transmit timeout logic could cause a race condition when handling reset tasks. The bnx2x_tx_timeout() schedules reset tasks via bnx2x_sp_rtnl_task(), which ultimately leads to bnx2x_nic_unload(). In bnx2x_nic_unload() SGEs are freed using bnx2x_free_rx_sge_range(). However, this could overlap with the EEH driver's attempt to reset the device using bnx2x_io_slot_reset(), which also tries to free SGEs.
