5. Debian: CVE-2024-56599: linux -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/11/2025 Added 02/10/2025 Modified 02/10/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath10k: avoid NULL pointer error during sdio remove When running 'rmmod ath10k', ath10k_sdio_remove() will free sdio workqueue by destroy_workqueue(). But if CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON is set to yes, kernel panic will happen: Call trace: destroy_workqueue+0x1c/0x258 ath10k_sdio_remove+0x84/0x94 sdio_bus_remove+0x50/0x16c device_release_driver_internal+0x188/0x25c device_driver_detach+0x20/0x2c This is because during 'rmmod ath10k', ath10k_sdio_remove() will call ath10k_core_destroy() before destroy_workqueue(). wiphy_dev_release() will finally be called in ath10k_core_destroy(). This function will free struct cfg80211_registered_device *rdev and all its members, including wiphy, dev and the pointer of sdio workqueue. Then the pointer of sdio workqueue will be set to NULL due to CONFIG_INIT_ON_FREE_DEFAULT_ON. After device release, destroy_workqueue() will use NULL pointer then the kernel panic happen. Call trace: ath10k_sdio_remove ->ath10k_core_unregister …… ->ath10k_core_stop ->ath10k_hif_stop ->ath10k_sdio_irq_disable ->ath10k_hif_power_down ->del_timer_sync(&ar_sdio->sleep_timer) ->ath10k_core_destroy ->ath10k_mac_destroy ->ieee80211_free_hw ->wiphy_free …… ->wiphy_dev_release ->destroy_workqueue Need to call destroy_workqueue() before ath10k_core_destroy(), free the work queue buffer first and then free pointer of work queue by ath10k_core_destroy(). This order matches the error path order in ath10k_sdio_probe(). No work will be queued on sdio workqueue between it is destroyed and ath10k_core_destroy() is called. Based on the call_stack above, the reason is: Only ath10k_sdio_sleep_timer_handler(), ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() and ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() will queue work on sdio workqueue. Sleep timer will be deleted before ath10k_core_destroy() in ath10k_hif_power_down(). ath10k_sdio_irq_disable() only be called in ath10k_hif_stop(). ath10k_core_unregister() will call ath10k_hif_power_down() to stop hif bus, so ath10k_sdio_hif_tx_sg() won't be called anymore. 6. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-53214: ELSA-2025-20095: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/13/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vfio/pci: Properly hide first-in-list PCIe extended capability There are cases where a PCIe extended capability should be hidden from the user. For example, an unknown capability (i.e., capability with ID greater than PCI_EXT_CAP_ID_MAX) or a capability that is intentionally chosen to be hidden from the user. Hiding a capability is done by virtualizing and modifying the 'Next Capability Offset' field of the previous capability so it points to the capability after the one that should be hidden. The special case where the first capability in the list should be hidden is handled differently because there is no previous capability that can be modified. In this case, the capability ID and version are zeroed while leaving the next pointer intact. This hides the capability and leaves an anchor for the rest of the capability list. However, today, hiding the first capability in the list is not done properly if the capability is unknown, as struct vfio_pci_core_device->pci_config_map is set to the capability ID during initialization but the capability ID is not properly checked later when used in vfio_config_do_rw(). This leads to the following warning [1] and to an out-of-bounds access to ecap_perms array. Fix it by checking cap_id in vfio_config_do_rw(), and if it is greater than PCI_EXT_CAP_ID_MAX, use an alternative struct perm_bits for direct read only access instead of the ecap_perms array. Note that this is safe since the above is the only case where cap_id can exceed PCI_EXT_CAP_ID_MAX (except for the special capabilities, which are already checked before). 12. VMware Photon OS: CVE-2024-56615 Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/21/2025 Added 01/20/2025 Modified 02/04/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: fix OOB devmap writes when deleting elements Jordy reported issue against XSKMAP which also applies to DEVMAP - the index used for accessing map entry, due to being a signed integer, causes the OOB writes. Fix is simple as changing the type from int to u32, however, when compared to XSKMAP case, one more thing needs to be addressed. When map is released from system via dev_map_free(), we iterate through all of the entries and an iterator variable is also an int, which implies OOB accesses. Again, change it to be u32. Example splat below: [160.724676] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ffffc8fc2c001000 [160.731662] #PF: supervisor read access in kernel mode [160.736876] #PF: error_code(0x0000) - not-present page [160.742095] PGD 0 P4D 0 [160.744678] Oops: Oops: 0000 [#1] PREEMPT SMP [160.749106] CPU: 1 UID: 0 PID: 520 Comm: kworker/u145:12 Not tainted 6.12.0-rc1+ #487 [160.757050] Hardware name: Intel Corporation S2600WFT/S2600WFT, BIOS SE5C620.86B.02.01.0008.031920191559 03/19/2019 [160.767642] Workqueue: events_unbound bpf_map_free_deferred [160.773308] RIP: 0010:dev_map_free+0x77/0x170 [160.777735] Code: 00 e8 fd 91 ed ff e8 b8 73 ed ff 41 83 7d 18 19 74 6e 41 8b 45 24 49 8b bd f8 00 00 00 31 db 85 c0 74 48 48 63 c3 48 8d 04 c7 <48> 8b 28 48 85 ed 74 30 48 8b 7d 18 48 85 ff 74 05 e8 b3 52 fa ff [160.796777] RSP: 0018:ffffc9000ee1fe38 EFLAGS: 00010202 [160.802086] RAX: ffffc8fc2c001000 RBX: 0000000080000000 RCX: 0000000000000024 [160.809331] RDX: 0000000000000000 RSI: 0000000000000024 RDI: ffffc9002c001000 [160.816576] RBP: 0000000000000000 R08: 0000000000000023 R09: 0000000000000001 [160.823823] R10: 0000000000000001 R11: 00000000000ee6b2 R12: dead000000000122 [160.831066] R13: ffff88810c928e00 R14: ffff8881002df405 R15: 0000000000000000 [160.838310] FS:0000000000000000(0000) GS:ffff8897e0c40000(0000) knlGS:0000000000000000 [160.846528] CS:0010 DS: 0000 ES: 0000 CR0: 0000000080050033 [160.852357] CR2: ffffc8fc2c001000 CR3: 0000000005c32006 CR4: 00000000007726f0 [160.859604] DR0: 0000000000000000 DR1: 0000000000000000 DR2: 0000000000000000 [160.866847] DR3: 0000000000000000 DR6: 00000000fffe0ff0 DR7: 0000000000000400 [160.874092] PKRU: 55555554 [160.876847] Call Trace: [160.879338]<TASK> [160.881477]? __die+0x20/0x60 [160.884586]? page_fault_oops+0x15a/0x450 [160.888746]? search_extable+0x22/0x30 [160.892647]? search_bpf_extables+0x5f/0x80 [160.896988]? exc_page_fault+0xa9/0x140 [160.900973]? asm_exc_page_fault+0x22/0x30 [160.905232]? dev_map_free+0x77/0x170 [160.909043]? dev_map_free+0x58/0x170 [160.912857]bpf_map_free_deferred+0x51/0x90 [160.917196]process_one_work+0x142/0x370 [160.921272]worker_thread+0x29e/0x3b0 [160.925082]? rescuer_thread+0x4b0/0x4b0 [160.929157]kthread+0xd4/0x110 [160.932355]? kthread_park+0x80/0x80 [160.936079]ret_from_fork+0x2d/0x50 [160.943396]? kthread_park+0x80/0x80 [160.950803]ret_from_fork_asm+0x11/0x20 [160.958482]</TASK> Solution(s) vmware-photon_os_update_tdnf References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-56615 CVE - 2024-56615

Debian: CVE-2024-56615: linux -- security update Severity 7 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:C/I:C/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/28/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: fix OOB devmap writes when deleting elements Jordy reported issue against XSKMAP which also applies to DEVMAP - the index used for accessing map entry, due to being a signed integer, causes the OOB writes. Oracle Linux: CVE-2024-56532: ELSA-2025-20095: Unbreakable Enterprise kernel security update (IMPORTANT) (Multiple Advisories) Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 02/13/2025 Added 02/11/2025 Modified 02/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: us122l: Use snd_card_free_when_closed() at disconnection The USB disconnect callback is supposed to be short and not too-long waiting.OTOH, the current code uses snd_card_free() at disconnection, but this waits for the close of all used fds, hence it can take long.It eventually blocks the upper layer USB ioctls, which may trigger a soft lockup. An easy workaround is to replace snd_card_free() with snd_card_free_when_closed().This variant returns immediately while the release of resources is done asynchronously by the card device release at the last close. The loop of us122l->mmap_count check is dropped as well. The check is useless for the asynchronous operation with *_when_closed(). 19. Debian: CVE-2024-56548: linux -- security update Severity 4 CVSS (AV:L/AC:M/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/13/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hfsplus: don't query the device logical block size multiple times Devices block sizes may change. One of these cases is a loop device by using ioctl LOOP_SET_BLOCK_SIZE. While this may cause other issues like IO being rejected, in the case of hfsplus, it will allocate a block by using that size and potentially write out-of-bounds when hfsplus_read_wrapper calls hfsplus_submit_bio and the latter function reads a different io_size. Using a new min_io_size initally set to sb_min_blocksize works for the purposes of the original fix, since it will be set to the max between HFSPLUS_SECTOR_SIZE and the first seen logical block size. We still use the max between HFSPLUS_SECTOR_SIZE and min_io_size in case the latter is not initialized. Tested by mounting an hfsplus filesystem with loop block sizes 512, 1024 and 4096. Following is how the race occurs: T1:Smmu device probeT2: Client device probe really_probe() arm_smmu_device_probe() iommu_device_register() really_probe() platform_dma_configure() of_dma_configure() of_dma_configure_id() of_iommu_configure() iommu_probe_device() iommu_init_device() arm_smmu_probe_device() arm_smmu_get_by_fwnode() driver_find_device_by_fwnode() driver_find_device() next_device() klist_next() /* null ptr assigned to smmu */ /* null ptr dereference while smmu->streamid_mask */ driver_bound() klist_add_tail() When this null smmu pointer is dereferenced later in arm_smmu_probe_device, the device crashes. Fix this by deferring the probe of the client device until the smmu device has bound to the arm smmu driver. The cited commit replaced inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop_and_put() with __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() and reqsk_put() in reqsk_timer_handler(). Then, oreq should be passed to reqsk_put() instead of req; otherwise use-after-free of nreq could happen when reqsk is migrated but the retry attempt failed (e.g. due to timeout). Let's pass oreq to reqsk_put(). Solution(s) debian-upgrade-linux References https://attackerkb.com/topics/cve-2024-53206 CVE - 2024-53206

 24. Debian: CVE-2024-56593: linux -- security update Severity 5 CVSS (AV:L/AC:L/Au:S/C:N/I:N/A:C) Published 12/27/2024 Created 01/14/2025 Added 01/13/2025 Modified 01/30/2025 Description In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: brcmfmac: Fix oops due to NULL pointer dereference in brcmf_sdiod_sglist_rw() This patch fixes a NULL pointer dereference bug in brcmfmac that occurs when a high 'sd_sgentry_align' value applies (e.g. 512) and a lot of queued SKBs are sent from the pkt queue. The problem is the number of entries in the pre-allocated sgtable, it is nents = max(rxglom_size, txglom_size) + max(rxglom_size, txglom_size) >> 4 + 1. Given the default [rt]xglom_size=32 it's actually 35 which is too small. Worst case, the pkt queue can end up with 64 SKBs. This occurs when a new SKB is added for each original SKB if tailroom isn't enough to hold tail_pad. At least one sg entry is needed for each SKB. So, eventually the "skb_queue_walk loop" in brcmf_sdiod_sglist_rw may run out of sg entries. This makes sg_next return NULL and this causes the oops. The patch sets nents to max(rxglom_size, txglom_size) * 2 to be able handle the worst-case. Btw. this requires only 64-35=29 * 16 (or 20 if CONFIG_NEED_SG_DMA_LENGTH) = 464 additional bytes of memory.
